In an attempt to retain the vanishing forest covers of the area, to increase awareness about trees and the love of trees among the people, and help soil conservation and arrest deterioration of soil fertility, a 2-day afforestation drive was launched at Keithelmanbi camp today to commemorate the Van Mahotsava Day.
Brig SK Jha, SM, Commander 9 Sector Assam Rifles inaugurated the event by planting the first sapling which was followed by large scale plantation of native species of plants all over Keithelmanbi by officers and men of 28AR.Approximately, 3000 saplings were planted on the first day today with saplings and nurseries provided by the forest and horticulture department.
Speaking on the occasion, Brig SK Jha encouraged all ranks of the AR to plant trees when they go on leave and increase the awareness level of fellow villagers on the issue and lead the way in doing so.
