Imphal, July 07 2009:
Referring to the act of vandalism and blasphemy committed by some unidentified miscreants at Pakhangba temple at Heingang on May 8, MLA O Joy drew attention of the Chief Minister to the matter during the Assembly session today.
Raising a call attention motion, O Joy said that atomic bombs have limits but 'communal bombs' have no limits.
The act of vandalism and the abusive words with strong communal overtones written on the wall of the temple had enough potential to strain the cordial relationship between different communities, Joy said.
He asserted that it called for prudence before a disastrous 'communal bomb' sparks off.
Decrying the conspiracy manifested in the act of vandalism, which was aimed at igniting communal violence, the MPP MLA cautioned that the act of vandalism would have serious implications in future if the Governments fails to make a thorough investigation.
Questioning the motive of the miscreants, Joy asked about the discoveries made during police investigation.
Responding to the call attention motion, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that Heingang police registered a suo motto case in connection with the act of vandalism.
After that, police has been investigating the matter, he informed.
However, the culprits behind the blasphemous act could not identified as yet, the Chief Minister conceded.
Disclosing that some villagers of Kairang were held in suspicion for the act, Ibobi reminded that the people of Kairang had strongly condemned the act.
Sensing that some people lacking civic sense but harbouring malicious intention to sow seeds of hatred and misunderstanding might be responsible for the act, police patrolling have been intensified in the area, the Chief Minister informed the House.
