Imphal, July 07 2009:
Accusing 4th IRB personnel of opening 'provoking fire' at Taphou, Forest Gate, Rikhumai Taphou and District Council office last night, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has demanded immediate withdrawal of 4th IRB company from Senapati district.
A press release issued by the student body alleged that the indiscipline and excesses of State forces have repeatedly created tension and public unrest in the district.
The SDSA also demanded judicial enquiry into the firing incident in addition to suspension of the officer in charge of 4th IRB as well as all the IRB personnel involved in the firing.
It conveyed strong resentment against refusal of the Government to revoke its decision of deploying IRB and commandos in Senapati district.
It further cautioned that failure to meet its demands within 15 days would compel the SDSA to launch any form of democratic agitation for which the State Government would be held responsible.
