Awareness on livestock insurance held

Veterinary Department, Churachandpur has conducted one day awareness programme on Centrally sponsored livestock insurance scheme today at Nghathal community hall with the objective to insure all dairy cattle of the State by March next.
Relatively new to local dairy farmers, the scheme, according to Dr O Loken of Manipur Livestock Development Board would ensure that farmers get 100 percent compensation of their livestock value if they die within the insured period, which varies from 1 to 3 years.
He also said that the scheme is empathic to farmers as 50 percent of the insurance's premium amount will be borne by the Government.
It also promised to complete settlement claims within 15 days of submission of death report.
The scheme that has granted farmers the option of choosing 3 years policy that requires premium amount of 5.1 percent of the livestock's price or 2 percent of the livestock price for the 1 year policy will be implemented by two nodal agencies � the Oriental Insurance Company and the New India Insurance Company.
Chief guest of the programme and guest of honour B Zodingliana, member ADC Churachandpur and Mannuamching, CEO, ADC Churachandpur complemented the scheme as it would safeguard dairy farmers against losses, which are very common due to the prevalent cattle diseases or other causes.
