Third gender community urges

Alleging harassment and mistreatment, the third gender community has reiterated the demand for separate entry gate and washroom at the ongoing Sangai Festival today.
Speaking to media persons Sana Ebemma member Sandra Nandeibam said the third gender community faced harassment from police and public ridicule right from the entry gates of the Sangai Festival venue.
Sandra further alleged that physical harassments are meted out to most transgenders inside the men's room set up at the festival.
A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Secretary on Nov 3 demanding the arrangement of a separate entry gates to the venue of the festival and separate washrooms inside the venue.
With no positive response from the authorities concerned, the community has reiterated their demand alleging physical harassment and abuses at the festival venue.
