Imphal, August 22:
Malem Leishemkol, Kangla, Imphal today submitted a memorandum of President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam demanding withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and preserving the sanctity of Kangla.
The memorandum signed by its president TM Rajen Ayangba asserted that withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur is required to save the people from the excesses of security personnel and enable to live in peace.
Imposition of the Act has not served its purpose, rather is has become a deadly weapon in the hands of the security forces, the memo maintained.
Emphasising on the importance of Kangla to the people of Manipur, the memorandum said its sanctity should be preserved.
