Imphal, August 22:
Taking serious note of the State Govt's failure to provide an ideal academic atmosphere in the State for the last one and half month, three student bodies, DESAM, MSF and AMSU have today informed that students will be submitting their text books to the leaders of the State from August 25 onwards as a mark of protest against the State Govt's indifferent attitude to the plight of the students community.
In a statement, the three bodies lamented that students have been deprived of proper education for the last one and half months due to the volatile law and order condition in the State.
Informing that the students will be boycotting classes until and unless the State Govt provides an ideal academic atmosphere for the students to pursue their academic career, the three bodies appealed to all the students to extend their support and cooperation.
Coming down heavily on the Chief Minister, it said that the Chief Minister should be held responsible for the ongoing agitation as he has been insincere in dealing with the demands of the people and added that Chief Minister is more concerned about occupying his CM post rather than solving the current agitation which has rocked the State for the last one and half month.
Referring to the arrest and subsequent booking of many leaders of various organisations spearheading the current people's movement under the NSA, the three bodies said that the Govt will never be able to suppress the people's movement by booking the leaders under the NSA or by firing rubber bullets at the peaceful demonstrators and instead it will only increase the rage that is burning in the hearts of the people.
It also appealed to the authorities concerned to release the arrested leaders immediately without any conditions.
Reacting strongly against the DGP statement that the current people's agitation is being supported and instigated by the UGs, the three bodies termed the DGP's allegations as baseless and unfounded which has been said to tarnish the image of the people's agitation and also to mislead the people.
