Imphal, August 22:
Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) has stated that the action of the State police force and its subsequent claim of having recovered a gun and ammunition from the mens hotel of the University was a calculated move to defame the students body and mislead the people on the contribution of MUSU to the ongoing peoples movement for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
In a statement, MUSU president H Ashirjit Luwang asserted that none of the students or University authorities were made witness at the time of the alleged arms seizure.
The police personnel had only informed of arms and ammunition being recovered from the University campus while giving a seizure memo to the VC in front of the hostel warden and the students.
But the next day they claimed the said arms and ammunition have been recovered from hostel room number 118.This only confirms the desperation of the State police force to tarnish the image of MUSU in the eyes of the people, Ashirjit said, while adding that people will not be misled by such false claim of the police.
Reacting to DGP AK Parashars statement that the current agitation of the people demanding for lifting of AFSPA is being carried out at the instigation of underground organisations, and seizure of arms from the University was an ample proof, Ashirjit said the statement was self contradictory logically by itself.
The person whom the police were after was also in no way connected with MUSU, he clarified.
The action of the State police forces was nothing but a part of the State-sponsored terrorism perpetrated by the ruling SPF Government on its people, he added.
The students body also come down heavily on Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers for allegedly encouraging the State police forces to use force against the people who are only demanding their democratic rights.
The University students body denounced the inability of the State Government to take up necessary measures against the Assam Rifles authorities for not co-operating with the inquiry commission instituted by it to probe into the death of Thangjam Manorama in AR custody.
Instead it is using all its security forces and machineries to suppress the voice of the people who are demanding justice, MUSU rued.
