The residents of Khonghampat area have their homage and tributes to Pebam Chittaranjan and K Memita, who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from Manipur by lighting candles in every households last nights.
A torch rally was also organised and shouted slogans demanding complete lifting of the Act from Manipur, Laikol Lairembi Nupi Lup, Khonghampat which had organised the event stated in a release.
The agitators also resolved to intensify the ongoing public stir and extend their full co-operation in future course of actions taken up by the 32 organisations spearheading the movement, the statement added.
Sekta Nupee Meira Paibi Lup has expressed it deep condolence to the untimely death of Pebam Chittaranjan and K Memita.
The members also shared the grief and sorrows of the bereaved family members.
Mentioned may be made here that Chittaranjan had self immolated on August 15 while Memita succumbed to rubber bullet wounds after being hit during a standoff with security personnel during the ongoing agitation.
Meanwhile, Huyen Lallong Manipur Thangta-Ta Cultural Association has also condoled the death of Pebam Chittaranjan.
Members of Khurai Puthiba Chanura Lup and various clubs of Khurai area paid respect to the departed soul of Chittaranjan by lighting candles on the roadside between Khurai Lamlong and Pangei this evening from 7 to 10.
