Dove, grass owl, turtle rescued

Imphal, September 29 2014 :
Two women home guard, Kh Bhani and S Daya, handed over a displaced juvenile spotted dove to the People for Animal (PFA) today.
According to the two homeguards, the dove flew inside Irom Sharmila's room yesterday.
The spotted dove, listed in schedule IV, is declining in its population alarmingly due to mass poaching.
Sharmila is reported to have fed and attended the bird.
PFA expressed gratitude to Sharmila for her act and for her love for animals.
Meanwhile, two eastern grass owl were also rescued by Naorem Tomba, Kakching and Yumnam David, Charangpat Mamang Leikai.
Both the birds were found flightless in both the inviduals' respective paddy fields.
The grass owls are suspected to have consumed rodents which ate toxic food from pesticide treated paddy fields.
In another instance, one Hidam Angou, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Ayang Palli, handed over a box turtle to PFA.
The turtle was found near Angou's farm.
