The first State level debate competition on "Political unrest in Manipur is due to less representation to Indian Parliament" under the aegis of the Department of Political Science, Don Bosco College Maram (DBCM) Manipur was held at Human Resource Centre (HRC) Hall, DBC Maram today.
The debate competition was participated by 24 students from different colleges.
HoD Political Science Department, DBCM Hungyo Masaileng who was also the convener of the debate competition presented the keynote address of the competition.
While giving the keynote address, he highlighted the system of representation in the Indian Parliament and emphasized on the need and importance of such co-curricular activities amongst the students.
Hungyo Masaileng said, "The debate competition on the topic aims to analyse the present political impasses in Manipur and it will also explore measures to solve various problems to some extent" .
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest Principal and Rector, Don Bosco College Maram Fr Dr KO Sebastian opined that educational institutions are laboratory of thoughts and ideas which further disseminates and bring change to social, political and economic aspects in human lives.
The debate competition with the topic "Political unrest in Manipur is due to less representation to Indian Parliament" may not bring immediate change but if 60 people give thought on this today, tomorrow these thoughts might make a difference, asserted the chief guest.
The principal of the host also pointed out that road blockade, strike and bomb blast are signs of political unrest in the State.
Like it is said, 'Crying baby gets the milk', a crying State with more MPs has greater chances to attain solution, as these issues and causes are heard in the Parliament with more thrust.
