Imphal, August 19 2011:
A column of 39 Assam Rifles of 27 Sector under Red Shield Division, on patrolling duty rescued a deer fawn that had fallen into a dug up pit, apparently by poachers in a dense jungle near Singhat.
Found injured when it was retrieved from the pit, the AR troops brought the fawn, which is about six months old, to the 27 Sector headquarters where it was nursed and fed before the sector Commander Brig VS Ranade handed it over to Zoo authorities for further care and protection, said a PIB (DW) release.
The AR team also interacted with the villagers and educated them on the importance of wildlife conservation, the release added.
