Imphal, August 19 2011:
Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) has urged the State Government to take up necessary steps so that the prolonged general strike and economic blockade clamped along the two National Highways of the State on the demand of Sadar Hills district are lifted immediately.
In a press release issued by its General Secretary, ZU (AMN) said, the people of Manipur are reeling under acute shortage of essential commodities which has grievously affected normal lives.
ZU (AMN) added, "It is high time to realise the agony of the common people by the SHDCC and review the agitation at the earliest on humanitarian ground, otherwise the sentiments of the people will prove counter productive" .
The union further said that the Government must provide full security escort or ROP on the two Highways immediately for free movement of public transport so that the emergency needs and humanitarian difficulties are addressed.

In this regard, ZSUM convened a joint public consultative meeting at Namdunlong, Imphal yesterday.
The meeting decided to propose a unified Naga organisation in Sadar Hills to give a common voice.
The meeting also urged the concerned to lift the economic blockade and general strike imposed along the National Highways, said a press release.
