Hike in price of Urea likely

Imphal, August 19 2011:
Even though urea-loaded trucks have trickled into the State capital after being stranded for days, the dealers are yet to put the essential agricultural item on sale as additional transport charge would have been levied for the vehicles reached here via the Imphal-Jessami route.
Informing that additional transport cost had been incurred while bringing the urea loads through the Jessami route due to the ongoing blockade of both the National highways, some dealers contended that as the Government Monitoring Cell is yet to re-fix the urea price, dealers are compelled to hold back sale of the same.
When approached, some of the urea dealers contended that without any security coverage the urea loads were brought in to the State at the risk of the dealers and increasing the price is inevitable in case there is no positive measure including compensatory expense borne by the Government.
It is also informed that apart from the length of the Jessami-Imphal route, the difficult terrain and levying of unauthorised tax along the way, it would not be feasible for the dealers to sell the urea at the price (Rs 520) previously fixed by the Government until some sort of compensation is paid to the dealers .
