Bicycles distributed

The Self Employment Voluntary Association (SEVA) today distributed bicycles to 126 families belonging to BPL category.
The bicycles were distributed at a function held at Manipur Press Club here under the theme 'Bicycle for Control of Carbon Free Environment'.
IMC Deputy Mayor Meibon Phaomei, SEVA Manipur CEO Kh Chinglen, Directorate of Environment Deputy Director Dr T Brajakumar and AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai attended the function as presidium members.
Kh Chinglen said that SEVA Manipur has set a target of distributing 150 bicycles to BPL families every month.
These bicycles which cost around Rs 3500 each are given on loan at minimal interest rate and the beneficiaries should repay the amount within six months.
Dr T Brajakumar said that the State Climate Change Action Plan may be implemented by 2017.Plans are afoot to organise mass awareness programmes on the negative impacts of using motor vehicles to environment.
W Shamjai said that people should shed the mindset of looking down upon cyclists.
Using cycles in place of motor vehicles would help a lot in conserving environment and ecology apart from keeping oneself healthy.
