Imphal, July 04 2009:
The Joint Action Committee against the acquisition of Land for Rail-fed Petroleum Depot, Malom Tuliyaima and Tulihal demands the state government to withdraw its decision to construct a rail-fed oil depot at Malom.
A press release of the JAC said that the government had taken the residential land of Malom at five stages to expand the Tulihal Airport into International Airport.
The compensation given by the government is very low compared to the market rate of the area.
People of the locality are left stranded by the land acquisition for the airport expansion.
Moreover, the expansion of the Tiddim road also affected the people of the locality already.
And now the government is trying to acquire the agricultural lands of the villagers for the construction of rail-fed oil depot.
Keeping in view of the problems facing by the villagers, the JAC demanded the state government to withdraw its decision to acquire lands for the rail-fed oil depot in the assembly session.
If the government fails to act according to the interest of the public, the JAC will stage various agitations, further stated the release.
