Lemchang, a Thadou-Kuki word for 'opportunity' is a unique institution that provides training to many youths of Churachandpur in various sporting and entrepreneur fields.
It has lived upto its name and purposes for several youths of Churachandpur since its inception in 2007, and true to its meaning it has become a 'house of opportunity' for many in the district.
And fascinatingly, it is making a smooth progress towards realising its purposes.
Located at the southern fringe of the Tuibuong's Peace Ground near the Tiddim Road, Lemchang has imparted training to the youths of the district in seven different disciplines Table Tennis, Carom, Handlooms, Tailoring, Gym, Computer and Basketball.
Lemchang was inaugurated by Maj.Gen.
BK Chengapa, the then IGAR(S) on May 21, 2007.It has also offered basic Computer Courses like CCA and DTP and so far, over 200 students have completed the courses.
Trainees in the sporting field of Table Tennis have also made their presence felt in every competition.
Last year, some of the trainees had represented Lemchang in the state level Table Tennis Championship held in Imphal.
There is a guide each in every discipline, who looks after and guides the trainees, Managing Director of Lemchang, TL Haopu Haokip told this correspondent.
Lemchang, a unique institution run by the 21 Sector Assam Rifles, has enrolled 45-50 trainees for computer course in a year.
Mode of training and fee payment are different in every trade.
It tries to charge minimum fees as far as practicable in order to avail its service to the poorest.
The institution has two computer instructors presently, the Managing director said.
TL Haopu Haokip has also acknowledged the contributions of the 21 Sector Assam Rifles posted at District Headquarter, Tuibuong for their works towards building and nurturing the talents of the youths.
He also hopes that more and more welfare schemes will be taken up in the days to come by 21 Sector AR while also seeking the cooperation of the people in the endeavours.
The institution has also produced over 800 shawls through its handlooms discipline so far.
Apart from imparting training in the 7 disciplines, Lemchang is also serving as an information centre for Army recruitment dates and venues.
Above all, any Army Officer visiting CCPur District is accorded a warm welcome first by Lemchang.
