Imphal, March 30 2011:
A district level convention on youth initiative for the publicity of message of peace and peace in Manipur was organised under the aegis of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Imphal at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak complex here today.
Executive Council member, Manipur University Presidents Nominee Dr Ch Jamini Devi and chairman of Manipur AIDS Consortium N Saratchandra Singh attended the inaugural function of the convention as chief guest and president respectively.
Delivering the key note address, youth co-ordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Imphal L Chitra explained that the convention is an effort toward encouraging participation of youth in bringing peace and development in the society.
Around 16 youths who are participating in the convention would take up the onus of spreading the message of peace and development in 25 different villages, she informed.
In her address as chief guest of the inaugural function, Dr Jamini Devi observed that it is a good sign that the youth would be given the responsibility of peace building measures from the village level.
She said that along with development, the number of educated persons has been on the rise.
But care should be taken that these educated persons, more particularly, the youths are given proper guidance so that they do not stray from the right path.
In his presidential address, Saratchandra pointed out that youth can play a major role in steering the course of the society to the right direction provided they work together.
The efforts being taken up by the Nehru Yuva Kendra to encourage youth in spreading the message of peace and development in the society should be supported by all, he exhorted.
Speaking as a resource person in the convention, news reporter of AIR Sapam Dilip observed that there is no peace in Manipur today because of lack of moral scruple among the people.
Despite existence of various laws and regulations, no one has been abiding with them and justice remains eluded over most cases.
This is given the impression that anybody can indulge in crime and remain scot-free.
So, to bring about peace and development in Manipur in such a prevailing situation is not an easy task.
But an effort has to be made and the youth should lead in this regard.
