Full-fledged ART centre in Tamenglong demanded

The Manipur Legislators' Forum on HIV & AIDS, MLFA has organized a one-day constituency level convention on HIV & AIDS at Indoor Stadium, Tamenglong on March 28 with MLA Dr I Ibohal Singh and also Secretary MLFA as chief guest.
Local MLA Khangthuanang Panmei, Vice Chairman HAC, Dimthaorei Panmei, EM TADC, Thambou, EM TADC and Pouhotlung, MDC TADC graced the function as president of the function and guests of honour respectively.
In his key note address, Sushil Huidrom, state coordinator of UNAIDS said that HIV/AIDS situation has reached its crucial stage in the state.
With the issued become alarming even Legislators have joined the effort to aware people on the prevention of the dreaded disease with the objective of erasing the dreadful disease from the state, he added.
HIV/AIDS issue has affected social development and economic development in the state.
He also appealed to the HIV/AIDS infected and affected people to come out in public and give awareness to the people that the dreadful disease now
is manageable.
Though there is no cure but one can be remain healthy and stronger by taking ART properly, he said and urged HIV/AIDS infected and affected people to take special care so that the virus could be transferred to others.
In his speech as chief guest, Dr I Ibohal Singh, and also secretary of MLFA explained why MLAs and MDC are involving in campaigning against HIV/AIDS and appealed to the local MLA, Khangthuanang Panmei and general public to put pressure the state government to upgrade the ART link centre in the district into a full fledged ART centre with CD4 count facilities and blood banking facilities.
MLA Khangthuanang Panmei, who presided over the programme, explained why school children are invited to attend in such function and why 60 MLAs of the state are involving in the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign.
He also urged all the participants to spread the message to control AIDS.
Dr Chambo Gonmei, Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS officer explained the details of the disease and preventive measures that can be taken up.
He also supported the proposal of MLA Ibohalbi in the upgradation of the ART centre in the district HQs.
Hundreds of people including school children and social leaders attended the convention.
