Private schools in legal soup

Inspite of being served show cause notices on the charge of violating provisions of right to Education Act, four private educational institutions are yet to respond to the School Education Department even as the Governor has sought action taken report by the Department on the same issue.
An informed source said, Director of Education (Schools) W Rajen served show cause notices to the four institutions on March 14 with the reply supposed to reach the Department within March 25 .
Under the provision of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, there should be no entrance test for admission to elementary classes (I-VIII) .
The four schools against which the notices were served for violating the prescribed norms are St Joseph's School (Sangaiprou), Little Flower School (Sangaiprou), Nirmalabas High School (MG Avenue/Imphal) and Catholic School (Canchipur).
While authorities of these schools are yet to formally explain their position, Governor Gurbachan Jagat has reportedly instructed officials concerned to hand over a report on the case.
On the advise of the Governor, the Chief Secretary is said to have instructed officials of Dept of Education (S) to investigate the matter and submit a report soon .
