The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has today submitted a charter of demands to Chief Minister N Biren .
Amongst others, ATSUM's demands included declaration of Assis- tant Professor recruitment results and upgradation of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University-Regional Campus Manipur to a full-fledged autonomous Central university .
ATSUM has demanded appointment of adequate teaching and non-teaching staff in the hill districts under ADC, Education (S) including secondary school lecturers and assistant professors in Govt college; and development of infrastructures in all educational institutions with library facilities, computer, lab equipment, staff quarters and recreational facilities .
The other demands pertaining to Education included doing away of culture of 'utilisation' of staff and reinstate staff to their original place of posting; setting up of residential schools; providing proper infrastructural facilities to ZEO offices; rationalisation of teachers; regularisation of adhoc teachers who have been verified by a special committee; facilitating the setting up of B Ed centres in the hills .
ATSUM also urged the CM to facilitate competitive examination centres in the hill districts wherever feasible in line with the CM's slogan 'Go to the Hills.'
In the Health sector, ATSUM demanded the Govt to make health centres functional and equip them with adequate infrastructure and manpower, to provide quarters to doctors and nurses and to formulate transfer and posting policy in the Health dept to avoid irregularities .
Strict compliance to reservation policy as per the existing 200 point roster in any recruitment; to do away with the system of piecemeal recruitment drive for equitable opportunities and to ascertain the total number of backlog posts in every department and filling the vacancies through a special recruitment drive for ST are other demands raised by ATSUM .
Besides, the tribal apex student body also urged the Govt to look into the matter of Tribal Sub-Plan .
ATSUM also reiterated its demand for reorganisation of police jurisdiction and introduction of MIL in all recognised dialects in higher secondary schools and colleges with adequate teaching staff .
It further said that as a measure to check the culture of substitution of teachers in hills and to help implement education policy of the State Govt, ATSUM will initiate a detailed and critical inspection of all educational institutions in the entire hill districts in collaboration with the Department of Education (S) .
