Bishnupur, August 17 2017:
A team consisting of the Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Bobby Waikhom and NHPC officials, IFCD and LDA officials, today, inspected the bridge and water regulator built across Khordak river, which runs between Bishnupur district and Imphal West district .
Khordak river is one of the important river which allows the passage of water from Loktak lake, reports our correspondent .
The team inspected the water spring at Nongmaikhong and Kumpi pat which fall to Khordak river and visited the areas which are covered by Phumdis and which have blocked the passage of water from Loktak and Takmu .
The officials later inspected the five-shutter dam which was constructed during 2011-2012 and which has remained defunct ever since .
The situation of Ithai barrage and Ithai dam were also inspected by the officials .
Speaking to our correspondent, one of the residents stated that the dam has not been functioning for a long time and it has not given any benefit to the residents of the area .
The resident added that the water coming from Loktak lake has not been flowing properly .
The residents also expressed strong discontentment and urged the dam to be removed at the earliest .
Meanwhile, Bobby Waikhom stated that the inspection was conducted to oversee the dam/ water regulator and collect the feedback of the people residing near by .
He further stated that after submitting all the reports, the officials and the authority concerned will decide whether the dam will be removed or not .
Despite its disadvantages, the dam has played a major role in providing good communication network to the people of the area, the DC asserted .
He assured to clean and clear the canals/ streams, which have been blocked by Phumdis, by using LDA machines .
LDA project director L Bhagatton, SDO, Moirang B Lokeshwor Sharma, Additional Chief Engineer of IFCD Ksh Pritam Singh took part in the tour among other officials.
