Imphal, August 03 2021:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has alleged that there has been some discrepancies in releasing the merit list for award of UGC scholarship under Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme for undergraduate students of North East India.
Maibam Julesh, vice president of MSF, said this at a press conference held at the office of the federation at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai and added that many eligible beneficiaries have been left out of the merit list.
He added that the scheme was launched in 2014-15 and every year 10,000 undergraduate students from both general and professional courses are selected for the award of the scholarship.
An amount of Rs 54,000/- and Rs 78,000/- are given to each awardee in general and professional courses respectively, he added.
For this year, only 974 beneficiaries were selected from the State, however out of this, there were discrepancies in more than 200 cases, Maibam Julesh told the press.
Some of the colleges/institutions where the students were reportedly studying had classes only upto XII standard and some of the beneficiaries were not even UG students, he added.
Maibam Julesh added that in addition to these, there were cases of students who were in the list multiple times by changing the names of the parents.
MSF appealed UGC and the concerned departments to look into the matter so that such discrepancies can be averted in future in the interest of the deserving students.
