Imphal, May 31 2012:
Voicing its deep concern over the shoot-out between Naga armed groups at Ejeirong yesterday, the United Naga Council (UNC) said the incident came as a rude shock at the backdrop of reconciliation movement among the Naga political groups initiated by FNR making much progress with the blessing and endorsement of the Naga people.
Stating that incident has caused widespread insecurity and panic among the civil populace of the area, a statement issued by the publicity wing of the UNC appealed both the parties to exercise utmost restraint and make use of space for dialogue and communication so as to rule out the possibility of recurrence of such incidents in future.
Acknowledging the intervention of the Zeliangrong civil society organisations and Churches in their efforts to neutralise the situation, the UNC prayed that the Christian spirit of love and forgiveness, peace and goodwill prevail among the Naga brothren.
