Lamka, May 31 2012:
A leading independent daily paper published here since 1981, celebrated its completion of 31 years in a simple yet dignified function at the State Tourism department's guest house located at the brink of Khuga Dam's entrance way.
Former Minister TN Haokip; T Manga Vaiphei, Henglep MLA; Ginsuanhau, Singngat MLA; Langkhanpau Guite, Chairman ADC Churachandpur; and a couple of MDCs have graced the occasion and shared their thoughts on the dedication of the paper's editor L Chinkhanlian.
TN Haokip, who is also a former journalist recalled how newspapers worldwide have met a tragic end the moment its leadership goes for monetary gain rather than follow the sacred ethics of journalism.
Manipur Express, which began to hit the stands on May 30, 1981 as a weekly journal, evolved today as the most popular and largest circulated daily based in the state's second biggest township, while it also remains as one of the oldest standing daily paper in the state.
As an independent paper its contents have no strict rules in language though the news and its editorial sections were mostly in Paite.
