Imphal, January 31 2021:
The second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination programme will start from the first week of February and it will cover frontline workers including police, home guards and Central security forces, said Dr Sapam Ranjan, Advisor (Health) to Chief Minister.
He was speaking at the launch of the 3-day Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization programme at the office complex of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare.
Stating that the State launched the COVID-19 immunization programme on January 16 in line with the Nationwide vaccination programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr Ranjan said the State had targeted to cover 7,310 healthcare workers in the first phase.
Of the target, the vaccination programme has covered about 3,986 healthcare workers so far, which is about 54.53 percent, he said.
Dr Ranjan also mentioned that the vaccination programme is being conducted following the advice and guidelines of the Ministry concerned.
After vaccinating the police and security personnel, the immunization programme will proceed to cover persons above 50 years of age, he said noting that the number of daily fresh infections and active cases have decreased sharply over the last few weeks.
Although the situation is improving as reflected by the infection statistics, people should still practice Covid Appropriate Behaviours and follow the SOPs, he said.
