Ukhrul, January 31 2021:
Villagers of Razai Khullen have urged the contractor concerned to start the PMGSY road construction work of Razai Khunou to Razai Khullen stretch before the onset of monsoon season to ease the transportation inconveniences there.
Speaking to this correspondent, headman of Razai Khullen, VS Mashivam expressed strong resentment against the contractor for the delay in spite of villagers living in piteous conditions for years.
According to him, the road construction work from L023 Razai Khunou to Razai Khullen which was supposed to begin from August 2020 is not yet initiated.
The headman also informed that the villagers had submitted representation to the local MLA Khashim Vashum, highlighting the pathetic road conditions.
Mashivam recalled a fateful incident during the COVID-19 peak in the State last year when two persons from Razai khullen infected with COVID-19 walked 8 kms on foot to reach the nearest taxi service for evacuation to the Covid Care Centre at Ukhrul.
The headman then cautioned the contractor concerned to maintain quality in carrying out the work as per the PMGSY guidelines and work specifications.
According to him, the construction works include widening of road, granular sub base (GSB), water bound macadam (WBM), pucca line drain, protection wall and bituminous layer.
Another villager Tharmi Zimik mentioned that the deplorable road conditions had also adversely affected the living conditions of the poor villagers.
He said one has to spend Rs 1,000 in travelling 8 kms (Razai Khunou to Razai Khullen) by taxi.
