Senapati, January 31 2021:
The Senapati district civil organizations in a joint statement, raised objections against any attempt to divert the NH-2/AH-l alignment for highway expansion to four lanes by NHIDCL.
Warning of public uproar and unrest, the Naga Peoples' Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Womens' Association (SDWA) appealed to the State Government and authority concerned to maintain 'status quo' of the original road alignment in Trans Asian Highway-1 expansion works from Tumuyon Khullen to Tumnoupokpi.
The joint statement was issued after a public sit-in-protest was held 4 days before at Tumuyon Khullen against the diversion of the said road without the knowledge of the people.
It stated that the attempt to divert was unjustifiable and the said proposal conspired by some individuals with vested interest had communal and divisive intentions.
The CSOs also mentioned that if the sentiments and voices of the people are challenged, it will not remain silent but react accordingly for which the State Government and NHIDCL should be held accountable.
Earlier, the JAC against the diversion informed that the originally proposed highway is stated to have a diversion route about 2 kms East from NH-2 which connects at the heart of Daili Village.
However, the recent DPR of the NHIDCL indicated the diversion being made at Kalapahar towards the western side by about 7.5 km stretch which was totally against the wishes of the people, said the JAC.
Mention may be made that Chairmen of all villages of the area had earlier submitted a petition to MP (Lok Sabha), Chief Minister of Manipur, MLA, 51-Saitu A/C, Managing Director, NHIDCL, Executive Director, NHIDCL and DC, Kangpokpi regarding the said issue, with no avail.
