Education (School) Commissioner P Bharat Singh has issued an order instructing all heads of educational institutions to ensure that teaching staff and students are within the campuses during school hours.
Talking to some reporters after conduction a surprise inspection at Johnstone Higher Secondary School today, the Commissioner asserted that the instructions to the students and teachers to stay within the confine of the school campuses is being issued in view of the frequent disturbances caused to the academic pursuit of the students.
The Govt measure, with special stress on teachers, is being initiated to minimize loss of academic year and ensure that normal academic calendar is followed, he maintained.
Regarding Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the Commissioner asserted that the ambitious Central sponsored education scheme would be implemented within the current session and the Rs 5 crore sanctioned by the Centre last year has been released to the district administrations concerned.
The scheme envisages the establishment of at least one school within one kilometre of the residential areas of the place and a ratio of one teacher for every 40 students, Bharat said and added that despite shortages of teaching staff due to total ban on fresh recruitments, efforts are being made to maintain the teacher-student ratio.
On amalgamation of schools, he said till date 94 institutions have been clubbed together as per convenience while at the vacant Tombisana High School plans are afoot to establish a Japan Government funded maternity and child welfare hospital in the State within a short period.
