Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil who is scheduled to arrive here on September 5 on a two day visit to take stock of the current situation is likely to announce a definite time frame for the complete evacuation of the Assam Rifles from Kangla.
Sources said that the Union Minister is most likely to give a definite deadline for the complete shifting of the Assam Rifles from the historic Kangla, which has been a demand of the Manipuri people for long.
Patil will leave Imphal on September 6.On his arrival, the Home Minister is scheduled to meet Governor SS Sidhu to discuss the prevailing situation in the State and later he will meet Chief Minister O Ibobi.
A meeting with the State DGP has also been lined up, said sources.
The Union Home Minister is likely to be accompanied by top ranking army officers and during his stay here, he will also meet the army top brass posted in Manipur, said sources further.
Not to miss out on the visit of the Union Home Minister, the State Government is set to put up a proposal to Patil to announce a special economic package for the State as well as to provide employment opportunities to unemployed youths.
The Chief Minister is also set to give a true picture of the situation prevailing in the State as well to provide the reasons for lifting the Disturbed Area Act from the Imphal Municipal areas.
During his stay here, the Home Minister is scheduled to meet representatives of civil societies including senior citizens as well as representatives of different political parties to discuss the issue and listen to their stand.
Meanwhile Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh convened a meeting today at his office chamber to discuss the preparations being taken up at the guest house of the Raj Bhawan, for the Minister's stay as well as the security measures to be taken up.
