Imphal, August 26:
Coming out strongly against the Centre and the State Government and the Assam Rifles authority for shielding the killers/rapists of Th Manorama, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup today said that the time has come for all to teach the Assam Rifles and the security personnel a fitting lesson.
Even though several summon orders have been issued by the C Upendra Commission, the AR witnesses are yet to depose before the panel and this more than indicates that the AR is mightier than the State Government and the Chief Minister.
Referring to the capital punishment given to Dhananjoy Chatterjee for raping and killing a school girl, the Lup questioned why the Indian Government is so reluctant to punish the guilty Assam Rifles personnel and added that this shows how they view the people of the State.
Stating that the time has come for all to distance themselves from the security personnel, the Apunba Lup asked all not to buy goods sold by the security personnel at reduced price as well as to refuse all aid taken up under the Military Civic Action programme.
All suppliers who supply food and other items to the security personnel have also been asked to stop associating themselves with the Assam Rifles and narrated how the AR football team was even debarred from contesting in a tournament in Kolkata.
Such is the disdain they are held in the eyes of the public now, the Lup said.
Targeting the 59 MLAs and the three MPs, the Lup said that the deadline set for them to tender their resignations have expired and stressed that no security measures will be able to protect them from the angst of the people.
Chief Minister O Ibobi too should stop indulging in double talks said the Lup and derided him for arresting the agitators under the NSA.
The very fact that hundreds of students came out on the streets to court arrest under the NSA is ample proof that the ploy of the CM to brow beat the people has failed miserably.
The Lup has also asked all the primary members of the Congress and the CPI to quit from their respective parties, if their earlier dharnas and protests were sincerely held for the revocation of the AFSPA.
The sacrifices of Memita and Chittaranajan will not go in vain said the Lup and added that their sarcifices will serve as the beacon for the peoples struggle to go on unhindered.
