Following the quit notice served by NSCN (IM) cadres to the Kuki villagers of Thawai, the State Govt has taken up wide spread security arrangements to prevent any form of violence in the area.
Mention may be made here that Manipur Human Rights Commission had on December 12 asked the State Chief Secretary and DGP to submit a report on the matter following a complaint from T Lunkim chairman of Kuki Movements For Human Rights.
The complaint had informed that cadres of NSCN (IM) had threatened the Thawai Villagers to leave their village before Christmas or face dire consequences.
A report submitted before the rights panel by the police said the matter was taken up and discussed in a meeting held on December 10.As resolved in the meeting, the State Govt took up the matter with the monitoring Cell of the Naga peace talks to ask the NSCN (IM) not to indulge in such unlawful activities.
Besides setting up a company of the BSF at Yaingangpokpi to provide foot patrol from Yaingangpokpi to Thawai Village via Mahadeva, MR and civil police will also engage in providing foot patrol from Litan to Thawai Kuki Village, the report added.
A temporary platoon post of IRB has also been opened at Thawai Village while Assam Rifles have been requested to provide patrolling from Mahadeva to Sanakeithel, it said adding that this will provide area sanitization around the village.
Though the current situation at Thawai Village is tense, it is under control, the report further said.
Body recovered : The body of an aged man was found at around 12.30 pm from the bus waiting shed near RIMS Gate under Lamphel police station.
The deceased person is likely to be around 70 years, is grey haired, frailly built and was wrapped in a blanket.
It was also attired in marooned colour jacket with sweater of brownish colour.
Lamphel police personnel had deposited the body at RIMS morgue for identification.
Meanwhile, identity could not be established of the bodies recovered from Bishnupur district areas in the last few days.
The bodies were found from an area in between Naranseina and Thinungei under Moirang police station on Dec 22 evening and another one on December 16 from Kumbi area.
