Even though Saichang villagers have alleged that Pastor Jamkholet Khongsai was killed and later buried by Assam Rifles personnel near Leitan village, the police are yet to establish the identity of the AR column that was on duty at Saichang village on July 8.However police said that inputs from the local villagers have established that the killers were personnel in uniform.
The bullet riddled body of Pastor Jamkholet was found buried near Leitan hill slopes on July 10, said a report submitted by the police to the MHRC.
Giving an updated report of its investigation into the case, police said that on July 10, a complaint was lodged with the Yairipok police station that personnel of 28 Assam Rifles went to Saichang village and picked up Jamkholet Khongsai and later shot him dead near Bongjang village on suspicion.
During the course of the investigation, a number of villagers were examined however, the identity of the AR unit could not be established, police said.
On being contacted, 9 Sectors Assam Rifles, under whose command 28 AR operates, told the police that no column of the Bn was pressed into service at Saichang area on July 8, added police.
The CO of 28 AR has been summoned for examination but till date he has not appeared before the Investigating Officer.
Information have also been sought from the 10 Sector AR but till date there has been no reply, added the report.
