Imphal, December 24:
Messages for peace and brotherhood echoed through at the all community 'Christmas for All' programme held today at Thaninkhun ground in Bishnupur district.
At the programme organised by Kalalong Baptist Church representatives of various communities of 12 municipal wards of the district and members of Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Excise Commissioner Akhyam Panmei (IAS) highlighted that Christmas is a celebration not only confined to the Christian community but wholeheartedly welcome the participation of people from different religious groups.
As all religious groups espouse the principle of non differentiation between caste, creed or religious background, celebrating Christmas need not be construed as an occasion for the Christians alone, he said while urging the people of Manipur to shed the notion that Christmas is a celebration only for those settled in the hills.
There is no bar on anybody embracing faith of their choices, Panmei said while calling upon the majority community to endeavour for uplifting socio-cultural aspects of the minority groups to strengthen bond of brotherhood.
