Imphal, December 22:
The Central Working Committee of the Kuki National Assembly, North East India, has written an open letter to the Information Minister of the NSCN (IM), Kraibo Chawang to defuse the situation that has arisen after quit notices were served on some Kuki hamlets by the outfit.
Urging Chawang to be the peace maker, the KNA spelt out a number of points and made it clear that the Kukis are not against the ongoing peace talks between the Government of India and in fact are happy that Th Muivah and Isak Chisi Swu are now in India to further the peace process.
However despite this, in March this year, all Kukis were asked to vacate their villages in Ukhrul district, said KNA and added that on November 23 this year, a quit notice was served on the villagers of Thawai Kuki village in Ukhrul district to leave before Christmas.
Again in October this year, the headmen of Kuki villages located in Kongyang Lok area lying in between Tamenglong and Churachandpur were summoned by the collective leadership of the NSCN (IM) Zeliangrong region and threatened to sign a paper stating that the land does not belong to the Kukis.
Newspaper reports on December 20 have also reported that quit notices have been served on Kuki villages in Phungyar, Ukhrul district and Tarnenglong district, said the letter.
