Wheel chairs, tricycles and hearing aids have been distributed to physically handicapped persons belonging to tribal community under a special scheme dining a function organised by Directorate of Tribal Development at Kukilnn here today.
Tribal Development Minister Phungzathang Tonsing' and Information Minister Gaikhangam attend the function as chief guest and president respectively.
In all 30 wheel chairs, 20 tricycles and 131 hearing aids were distributed during the function.
Speaking at the occasion, Phungzathang said that TD Department is an important department although it is very small.
There are various scheme being implemented by the Department for the welfare of the Tribal people who are physically handicapped, the Minister said, adding that a Medical Officer would be soon appointed to solve the problem being faced presently as there is no medical officer in the department.
Gaikhangam who presided over the function in his address asserted that TD Department has been taking up various programmes and schemes for the welfare of the under developed tribal people.
He also appealed to the Minister and officials concerned of the Department to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity.
Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Chaltolien Amo was along other Departmental officials and VIPs who were also present at the occasion.
Hearing aids: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Guwahati in co-operation with All Manipur NGOs Forum would conduct a assessment cum Hearing aids distribution function on December 30 at the conference hall of TTA Ukhrul with Dr YL Mingthing as functional president.
All the hearing impaired persons who would like to avail the facility have been asked to come with income certificates.
