Expressing concern over the plight of the students studying in schools located in the hill districts, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the Government for taking up remedial measures immediately.
Apart from lack of adequate infrastructures in these schools, most of the teachers do attend classes adding to the woes of the students, secretary education and academic affairs of DESAM LC Santosh pointed out in a statement.
A joint survey of all the schools located in Machi sub-divisions of Chandel district was conducted by representatives of DESAM and Maring Students Union, Manipur for eight days recently to find out the problems of the students in these schools, the statement informed.
The schools covered during the survey are Laijing Khuman LP School, Laijing Minou UJB School, Langol Junior High School (Aided), Langol Primary School, Khunbi Primary School, Khulshaibung (Karongthel) Primary School, Lamlong Khullen Junior High School, MNBC Junior High School (Private), Machi Government High School, Phangjong Primary School, The United South Eastern Junior High School, Khahgoi Khullen LP School (Grant-in-aid) and Khumbi Tuinem LP School (Grant-in-aid).
In all these schools one common problem is lack of adequate teachers and infrastructures, the statement maintained.
The problem of the students is further compounded due presence of substitute teachers and truant teachers who only wait for monthly salary, the Students body observed.
