The electioneering processes of the Manipur Pradesh Congress committee (I) scheduled for April 30 has been activated with the issuance of election notification by the Assistant Pradesh Returning Officer Bidyapati Senjam on April 18.Besides electing a new party president, the poll will scout for appointment of a vice president, treasurer and 17 executive members of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
While the last date for submission of nomination papers had been fixed till 4 pm of April 22, scrutiny would be conducted on April 24 morning with withdrawal of candidature to be entertained till 5 pm of April 26. The election will be held from 9 am till five in the evening.
Including the PCC members, party MLAs, District Congress Committee�s presidents, and ex-presidents a total of 80 voters would be eligible to exercise franchise.
According to press sources, non-fulfilment of technicalities by the party MLAs is scuttling publication of the final electoral roll with the assertion substantiable due to absence of the roll in the Congress Bhavan notice board till late evening.
Even though T Suvash has been appointed as the presiding officer to oversee the poll and H Nabakumar named as the supervisor no nomination paper had been filed till today inspite of less than 48 hours remaining for expiry of the given deadline by the authorities.
However, sources at the congress set-up revealed that with the last date of filing nomination fast approaching hectic group discussions are underway amongst the party legislators and eligible voters for consensus on presidential candidate.
The source reiterated of Power Minister Gaikhangam being tipped as consensus candidate for the post of presidentship with the CM O ibobi Singh, who currently holds the post, strongly advocating election of a person possessing credibility to serve the party as well as strengthen the Secular Progressive Front Government.
