Taking serious note of the gunning down of a patient inside the surgical ward of RIMS recently, NEC Secretary Dr Kamal Taoria said that such incidents and the prevailing law and order situation has put a halt on infrastructure expansion of the institute.
Speaking to newsmen at the Jubilee Hall today, the NEC Secretary said that the security aspect of RIMS will be discussed with the Chief Minister.
The situation at RIMS following the killing will also be discussed minutely with the CM, he added.
Recalling the recent meeting of the NEC held at New Delhi with the PM in the chair, the Secretary said that NEC is committed to making RIMS a centre of excellence.
Dr Taoria who is here to attend the Board of Director meeting of RIMS, said that efforts will be made to generate income of RIMS through research works from agencies like WHO and Indian Council of Medical Research.
NEC has also sanctioned Rs 50 lakhs to the State Government for Promotion of Research Study in the Field of Traditional Indian System of Medicine and Promotion of local practitioners in the field of ISM in North East region, informed Dr Taoria.
RIMS Director Prof L Fimate who was also present at the press briefing said that the institute has been providing quality education to the students and added that RIMS now has facilities for pursuing super speciality courses.
He added that RIMS will be able to function at its optimum level if there are no outside interferences.
