Imphal, April 20 (NNN):
The All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has strongly condemned yesterdays Thoubal incident where a 200 strong mob vandalised and torched the Believers Church at Lamding village.
ANSAM vice-president Ngachonmi Chamroy in a statement issued to Newmai News Network today said that had the State Government genuinely taken up efforts to protect the minority Christians in Manipur, things would have been different.
Chamroy while coming down strongly on the Congress led SPF Government, stated that even though numerous such incidents had occurred earlier, where minority Christians were segregated and discriminated by the non-Christians, the Government continued to turn a blind eye and did not take up adequate and appropriate measures to protect the Christians.
He further stated that all the Christian MLAs and Ministers in the present O Ibobi Singh led SPF Government should tender their resignations for failing to protect the Christians.
The ANSAM leader further said that the SPF Government has failed to protect secularism adding that the leaders in the Government were only concentrating on safe-guarding their chairs instead of addressing the plights of the people in the state.
ANSAM statement demanded that all the culprits involved in yesterdays church vandalism and torching incident should be booked at all cost without further delay so as to calm down the already highly charged tension in the area.
