Expressing great shock and surprise at the way the public had welcomed the Ministers and MLAs with garlands during the Konthoujam by election after having burnt their effigies and attacked them during the recent agitation against the imposition of AFSPA in the State, MPP president O Joy today said that the party has never witnessed such kind of public's attitude in its long history.
Addressing a press conference at the MPP office today, Joy expressed happiness at the way Konthoujam by elections had been successfully conducted without any unwanted incidents and added that such successful poll process will help in strengthening the democratic roots in the country.
Accepting the defeat of the Opposition's common candidate at the hands of the Congress candidate Budhichandra in the just concluded by poll, Joy said that defeat was mainly to the inherent weakness of the MPP party in particular and Opposition in general and further said that the party workers should not blame others for the defeat.
Joy also expressed his gratitude to all the people who supported and voted for the Opposition candidate during the election.
