Imphal, October 19:
The Japanese government has been requesting for a long time to allow them construct a 100 bedded hospital for women and children and emergency services.
Japan has assured to provide the necessary infrastructure and money.
India government has also approved the proposal.
The hospital could not be constructed as the Manipur government has not been able to provide land.
The motive of Japan is to construct a hospital as a tribute to their forefathers who died during the WWII in Manipur.
It is unfortunate that there is land dispute over the matter and Japan will not be happy over the dispute.
Now the people are apprehensive that Japan may pull out of the project the Joint Committee of Medical Department Employee Association, Family Welfare Department Employee Association and Manipur Health Service Officers Association today said in a statement.
The Japan International Corporation Agency (Jico), Japan on 4 September 2004 had asked the Director health Dr Ch Chandramani to provide the screening format immediately which is now lying in the Secretariat.
The state officials are lease concerned about the matter.
The Committee had also requested the government to construct the hospital at the Old district hospital.
A hospital in the heart of the city is a much.
It is clearly stated in the Japanese proposal, "project for construction for a women and children hospital and an accident and emergency clearance centre in Khwairamband bazar, Imphal and is to be considered for fiscal year 2005-2006".
