Imphal, May 17:
With the stated objective of discussing the issues and the problems being faced by the student community in the State among others, the 39th biennial State conference of All India Students' Federation (AISF), Manipur State Council has kicked off from today at the Irabot Memorial Hall of Challou, Lamlai.
The inaugural function of the two-day long conference was attended by secretary of CPI Manipur State Langol Iboyaima, former president of AISF Manipur State Council MLA A Mangi Singh, present president of AISF Manipur State Council A Roneshkumar Singh and general secretary of All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association M Joykumar Luwang as presidium members.
Giving the key note address of the conference, secretary of AISF Manipur State Council Kh Inaobi Meetei spoke on how All India Students' Federation came into being in India and said that AISF is seriously concern over the standard of education in the Government institutes from primary level to the college level.
In view of mushrooming growth of private schools in Manipur, it is high time for the Government of Manipur to laid down guidelines for these private schools and de-recognised all those who do not abide the guidelines, Inaobi observed.
In his address, MLA Mangi opined that frequent incidents of killing innocent people both the outlawed outfits and security forces and later implicating them in false charges have given a serious impact on the efforts towards restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Before eliminating any persons, outlawed outfits and the security forces should conduct a proper trial.
Punishment or chance for rectification should be given only after the accused is found guilty, he added.
The MLA also suggested that the AISF should not class itself among the student bodies in the State which involved themselves in any issues while disregarding the main problems of the students.
