Stating that the protest movement of the MAFYF is a non-violent one, acceptable to both the Constitution of India as well as the international human right laws, a spokesperson of the MAFYF who wishes to remain anonymous has reiterated its appeal to release its president Sapamcha Kangleipal, currently detained under NSA.
Speaking to media persons today, the spokesperson declared that MAFYF opposes some of the laws and Acts which are claimed to be lawful by the Government of India.
Elaborating on the various charges levelled against Kangleipal so that he can be detained under NSA, the spokesperson spelled out the charges which include establishment of MAFYF in May 2005 in coordination with the proscribed KCP, telephone talk between Kangleipal and a Burmese gun runner on April 4 this year, issuance of press releases by Kangleipal as president of MAFYF against the State and speaking out against the initiative of the State to provide guns to the people of Heirok and Chajing.
Alleging that all these charges are aimed at detaining Kangleipal under NSA, the spokesperson asserted that all measures and actions are targeted to subdue to people's movement against human rights violation in the State.
The spokesperson further recalled that all these charges were not made when Kangleipal was first arrested from Manipur Press Club.
