Peeved with the failure of the State Government to make any response to the ultimatums served by the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) Senapati on April 17 on non-release of rice and kerosene under PDS and by the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) on noncompletion of water supply project, the NPO has called a total bandh with effect from May 19 midnight till midnight of May 20 .
This would be followed by economic blockade from May 21 till the PDS items are released unconditionally and the water supply project taken up under NLCPR is completed, informed a press release issued by NPO.
The decision to call bandh and economic blockade was arrived at after serious deliberation on the matter on May 14 at the NPO office at Senapati district Hqs with district tribe presidents and executives of SDSA, the release said.
The meeting took serious note of the alleged negligence of the State Government towards the people of Senapati district who have not been getting rice and kerosene entitled to them under the PDS since January this year.
PDS rice and kerosene for Senapati have not been released sine December last year on the pretext of non-issuance of utilisation certificate.
The meeting also decried non-completion of water supply projects taken up in the district under NLCPR, conveyed the release.
Stating that no vehicles and business establishments will be allowed to move or operate during the bandh, it informed that paramilitary, medical, water supply, electricity and educational institutions will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
