Moreh, October 14:
As long as there is no common aspiration and mutual cooperation and understanding among different communities of Manipur, no single community can win back the freedom of Manipur, asserted president of Hill Tribal Council, Moreh Yangmang Haokip.
He was speaking as a presidium member at an open forum held on "Role of people towards bringing peace in Manipur" at Ima Kondong Lairembi community hall yesterday.
In a multi-community State like Manipur, community leaders have great responsibilities towards establishing peace and love among different communities.
It also requires sincerity on the part of bureaucrats.
So long as the UG groups are not united, liberation of Manipur will remain a far fetched dream, he observed.
Besides Yangmang Haokip, the open forum jointly organised by the Meitei Council Moreh, AMSU Chandel District Committee and the Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup Moreh was also attended by MCM president L Imobi, president of Meitei Muslim Council Moreh Nahamacha, president of Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup Keina and leader of Marwari community S Jain as presidium members.
Addressing the forum, general secretary of MAPI Council M Bimol noted that the people of the State have been enduring extreme hardships due to the ongoing conflict between the huge security forces and the numerous insurgent groups.
Stating that brunt of the conflict situation will not go away on its own if the people fail to take necessary initiatives to address their own plight, Bimol opined that the time is right to hold a plebiscite on the issue.
Other speakers who addressed the forum pointed out the difference in the status of Manipuri people before and after the merger of Manipur with Indian Union.
