Imphal, October 14:
The Court of Civil Judge (Junior Division) Imphal has issued an order dated October 6, refraining the sitting president of the MPP Dr L Chandramani from acting as president of the party both in administrative and financial matters and to call off the proposed special session of the party conference earlier scheduled for October 13.In compliance with the Court decree, the proposed conference has been consequently put off for an indefinite period.
The tenure of MPP adhoc committee president Dr L Chandramani was due to expire on September 24 this year but his term was extended for six months by the party's central committee during a meeting held on September 23.
It was also arranged to seek approval for the extension of the president's tenure during the special session of the party conference scheduled for October 13.However, after complaints against the extension of the tenure of Dr Chandramani were lodged by ex-vice-president of MPP H Heramani, delegate members Th Heramani and U Ritam alias Litam, the Court asked the party to cease all administrative and financial activities and to suspend the proposed special session.
Dr L Chandramani was elected as adhoc president of the party on September 18 last year by a meeting of the MPP central committee chaired by the then president L Borajao.
To extend the term of the president by forming a new central committee against the existing central committee is against the constitution of MPP, contended the petitioners.
They also alleged that the proposed special session of the party conference convened on October 13 is also against the established norms.
Political watchers are keenly observing the possible steps that may be taken by the Election Commission of India regarding the impasse within the MPP.
