Imphal, October 14:
Spelling out the reasons why the State newspaper houses suspended publication from October 11 till October 14 and why ISTV did not air its news bulletins, the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union today said that it was constrained to take up the step as there was immense pressure, including death threats issued by one group of PREPAK if the media published a statement issued by Chinglemba Mangang of another group of the outfit.
The journalist body decided to call off its agitation after the former agreed to apologise for the threats and assured that it would stick by its earlier commitment that it would not interfere in the working of the media.
A written missive outlining the assurances was also submitted to AMWJU by Aheiba Angom of the department of publicity and propaganda of PREPAK yesterday, said the statement.
The scribes' body has also expressed its gratitude to all those who extended their solidarity to them.
