Imphal, July 10:
Charging the Congress-led SPF Government with remaining indifferent to the difficulty of the people and doing nothing even if the cost of the Superfine rice has reached Rs 20 per kg, the BJP Manipur Unit has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
In a statement, media in-charge of State unit BJP said that the inability of ensuring adequate supply of rice to the people at an affordable rate despite adequate stock of rice lying in the FCS godown shows insincerity of the Congress led SPF Government.
When rice can be made available to the people at Rs 4 per kg in a BJP-ruled State like Madhya Pradesh which has a population of around 20-30 crores, selling of Superfine rice at Rs 20 per kg in Manipur which has a population of just round 24 lakh is nothing but daylight robbery by the Government, the statement said.
It is shameful on the part of the Chief Minister to remain clinging to his chair thinking that the CPI which has withdrawn support to the UPA Government at the Centre has not yet decided to do so from the SPF Government, the statement said, while asking whether the Government is waiting for the people to revolt against scarcity of rice.
Continuing the attack by charging the Government with indulging in corruption and percentage cut instead of trying to improve the deteriorating law and order condition, the State unit BJP said that it is prepared to launch a series of intense agitation along with the support of the people if the Government does not act now and try to bring down the prices of essential commodities in Manipur.
