Imphal, July 10:
Citizens Concern for Dams and Development (CCDD) expressed serious concern over the breach in the eastern canal of Khuga Dam in Churachandpur district.
A press statement sent out today by the organisation said that the breach indicates the sub-standard quality of work taken up by Irrigation and Flood Control Department.
The CCDD added that the breach during trial run that washed away fishpond and submerged paddy fields indicates the widespread loss and devestation which may give by the dam.
The organisation also reminded that Mapithel Dam of the Thoubal Multipurpose Project taken up by the same department also developed crack in its spillway sparking controversy over the quality of development and impending threats to human lives.
The organisation said that instead of penalising the officers concerned involved in these sub-standard constructions, the State Government is busy in targeting the civil society organisations.
The CCDD also sought for thorough investigation in this regard and give fitting punishments to the concerned officials.
